The Steel Leader
Friends and family have gravitated to the “Steel Leader” – NYS9816MC, knowing that Mike and his boat have the abilities to not only catch fish, but to generate a safe and enjoyable time on the water. Capt. Mike enjoys teaching his clients “how to fish” using the latest and greatest of electronics and eqiupment!! He is prepared to teach YOU how to go out and “do it yourself” the next time!!
This 24 foot Stryper is outfitted with all recommended US Coast Guard safety equipment. The “Steel Leader” also carries an AED and Basic Life Support supplies to support the safety of the passengers and crew. Michael Rauh is not only an accomplished fisherman and guide; however, he is also a medical physician and specializes in Orthopaedic Surgery - Sports Medicine. He currently serves as a Medical Director for the Buffalo Bandits – NLL Lacrosse team. He is truly prepared for ALL emergencies on the water. In support of this commitment to safety; the boat carries an ACR Emergency Position Indicator Beacon which is registered with the SARSAT / NOAA (2DCC7 52EDA FFBFF). Also, the boat carries two VHF radios with DSC and GPS emergency capabilities (FCC Call Sign WDG7745).
The Steel Leader is equipped with a 4G Doppler Radar from Raymarine, a 12” Axiom Pro Raymarine MFD with GPS guidance system and radar overlay for navigational support during routine and inclement weather. The boat is equipped with dual matched outboard engines; including a new (2019) 300 HP Yamaha and 9.9 High Thrust Yamaha 4 stroke engines which are intimately linked to the Raymarine Evolution autopilot. Needless to say, the vessel passed every US Coast Guard – Vessel Safety Check and Charter boat inspections with “flying colors”. It has been certified by the USCG for UPV for the current and all past fishing seasons.
With regards to our fishing equipment, the Steel Leader is equipped with matching Diawa Saltist 50 LCHA reels and 8 foot St. Croix Eyecon rods for a truly special experience. We have Big Jon Professional electric downriggers; Fish Hawk X4D speed, temperature, and depth device for understanding the underwater currents of our lakes; BigJon Otter Boat Planer boards; lead core setups; "secret weapon rigs"; and all the necessary lures and baits. The Steel Leader is now docked at the Sunset Bay Marine Park near Silver Creek, NY. The Steel Leader had spent past seasons at the Buffalo Harbor State Park, Chadwick Bay Harbor (Dunkirk, NY), and Wilson Harbor Marina (WIlson, NY). Thanks to everyone at our alternate ports for making our stays there welcome!!
The Steel Leader is (NOT) easily transferred to the friendly shores of Lake Ontario (Olcott or Wilson, NY) for fishing trips in Lake Ontario for King Salmon fishing trips. Thus, the significant price jump and “pre-planning” required. Early “ice-out” fishing out of Wilson or Olcott are your best chances for fishing Ontario with us. We have great connections to the charter fleet there as well. Let me know if you need help!
